~
I measure distance
in my head
using a simple rationale,
how long would it take
for me to get there?
that’s all well and good if
I can see my destination, or I
have a map or know someone
who’s already made the
journey and can advise me,
but then I consider space
where none of these
rules hold true,
for example a light year
in space terms
a mere pigeon-step
is six trillion miles!
I have no clue
how to fathom this
my brain closes down,
looking to the moon, which
I feel can almost touch
I feel very small
an insignificant microbe
a speck of dust in the
unfathomable nothingness
