9×9

9×9 is nine poem exercise in brevity. Using as few words as possible in only nine lines

Bally-hoo!

balaclavas in the sunshine

head to toe in black, uniform

stark armour of the workless,

a grim incognito ninja army of

hooded backyard selfie boys

shouting at the world,

a 21st Century ‘Tommy’ set

to repel all beach invaders

except on Tuesdays

Heartfelt

I often wonder if you knew

a day off work, doctor sent for,

you sounded cheery enough

when we spoke but you died,

I looked up the word infarction

a word as horrific as it sounds,

I held your hand when I came

they had left your wristwatch on,

it kept good time alas, not for you

~

Reve

dreams make little sense

scrambled themes from

books with missing pages

that fall from my grasp,

waking me abruptly at

curious palindromic hours

three zero three and the like,

abandoned like an orphan

confused and ill at ease
